I enjoy simple composition. Sometimes less is more. When choosing an accessory, it must first serve a purpose, second complement your attire, and third bring comfort to your daily routine.

Shootin’ Straight from the Horses Mouth

         Surfing the nets recently, I came across the English Bridle leather messenger bag by Emil Erwin.

This style of messenger is classic, what I like about it is the mixture of hardware colors (stainless steel + copper snaps). It gives it an edge and works with the rugged leather Emil Congdon is using.

Jean Paul Gaultier has this insatiable sense of curiosity, almost like a child running after a bright red balloon for the sake of the sensation. I have watched many videos of him — there’s always a smile, a fire in his eyes.

We all get the itch to get out. And this time, we have broken out with scarlet fever. Red dominated the Fall 2011 runways. Everyone has that one piece of clothing that taunts you to take it out to dinner. Handsomely presenting itself to you. But then you wonder if this work of art can appropriately fit into the environment – and red comes with territory. Real estate, rather. 

Which reminds me of Chihuly’s glass installations, so gentile and majestic; his work has always taken audience from the outdoors. Indeed, I will be brave to fit right into the environment in my Gucci jumpsuit or Chado Ralph Ricci boots.

When you want contrast, go all out. It is very difficult to achieve such a rich color in natural materials, particularly such an even shade on python. Wow. Nothing satisfies more.  

Meredith Wendell’s latest neon backbone bracelets look like stained glass windows. Chic  geometric pop art meets kitsch Mario Bros. for a dash of fun! 

So what’s with the name Avocado Chic?

Avocados make me think of color palettes found in nature, the organic juxtaposition to shape, shade and texture finely-tuned to survival. There is longevity to consider here, it makes me contemplate how humanity has tried to recreate an everlasting object and we sometimes succeed.

Much in the same way, I am evolving as this post will – as I begin my studies at Parsons to make my highest hopes and my dream of becoming a successful accessories designer happen.

I am inspired by the avocado because of its origin, its texture – the way it is consumed.

It’s one of the reasons I want to visit Chile. Avocadoes remind me of the first time I mixed paints and the seemingly endless possibilities that lay between the shades.
